MCM Voices Newsletter
Volume I No. 4 May 2007

Blogs of Note. Who has time to read blogs? Maybe while you're trying to rev the morning engines over that first cup of the life-giving? Try Cartoon Brew for the past, present and future of animation. Or Deadline Hollywood Daily for Nikki Finke's take on the latest Hollywood whatever (warning: Nikki is not always nice). Or semi-radical or just plain sensible views on marketing by Seth Godin.

MCM News
a few highlights

Jazz man .. . I have been working with film maker John Vizzusi for close to two years on his documentary on jazz legend Don Ellis. The final narration was completed last week and the West Coast premiere is 25 May (already sold out). A sneak preview can be seen here.

Two of the month's biggest projects were ones about which I can't say much yet. One was providing numerous voices for a historical documentary that will come out next winter. All I will tell you about it right now is that I will have to take a boat to attend the premiere, and that it's going to be very exciting! The other big project requires me to narrate a long script first with my American accent, then with a Standard British and an Australian accent. Part one is done, parts 2 & 3 are in progress. More on that later.

Dialect work. In amongst the bread & butter voice-over jobs this past month I've been working hard in my course on Dialects for Actors. My fellow students and I will be performing our scene and monologue work next week. I've recorded some of my stuff, which can be heard here.

Avian bloopers of the month. Okay, I'm not exactly the source for news on the latest movies. So this blooper is five years old. In Bourne Identity you can hear an Eastern Wood-pewee singing in the suburbs of Paris. This is an exclusively "New World" species. Blue jays can be heard in the same part of the film. In the real world, these jays are restricted to North America. I'll let you know after August how Bourne Ultimatum scores on the Avian Blooper Index (ABI).

A DHL commercial currently running on television features the ethereal voice of the deep-woods Hermit Thrush ... on a golf course! Scarcely a tree to be seen.

That's all for this month.

Keep moving forward -
